Dr Andreas Bezold is a chemical engineer with more than 20 years experience of research and development on chemical reaction, microbiology and thermal separation processes. Before joining Airbus in 2005, Andreas Bezold completed his PhD thesis on high-pressure chemical engineering at the Technical University Hamburg, where he also gained 6 years experience as research associate on chemical reaction and thermal separation processes, predominantly commissioned by pharmaceutical companies like Hoffman La Roche, Merck, and Bayer Corporation or the German Research Foundation DFG.
In his function as Airbus focal point for cabin air quality topics, he represents expertise in evaluation and determination of air quality in terms of chemical, biological and particulate contamination for all Airbus aircraft programs. He defines requirements for air supply systems, supports verification and troubleshooting and leads R&T and evaluation activities on related technologies. He furthermore contributes to the related group-wide strategy, supports the decision making process regarding strategic programmes, projects and policies and represents Airbus in external councils and committees.

Having initially specialized in family medicine, I have worked in aviation medicine for nineteen years. I hold a Master in Health Sciences (Aviation Medicine) and I am an EASA and FAA certified medical examiner.
I run the UCS – TAP Air Portugal Group aviation medicine centre and travel clinic in Lisbon, Portugal. I am also head of the health services’ technical and education committee and oversee the airline’s training programmes in medical aspects.

Professor John Nicholls is a Clinical Professor in Pathology at the University of Hong Kong. He commenced medical studies at the University of Adelaide, South Australia in 1977, and graduated in 1983. In 1988 he moved to Hong Kong as a Lecturer in Pathology at the University of Hong Kong where in addition to clinical and teaching duties commenced research into the relationship of viruses with the respiratory tract.
In 1997, following the first outbreak of H5N1 influenza in humans, he commenced collaboration with the Department of Microbiology to study the pathological effects of avian influenza viruses in the respiratory tract. In 2003 he was a key member of the research team at the University of Hong Kong which isolated and characterized the novel SARS coronavirus which was associated with the global outbreak of 2003.
His work on SARS, MERS and avian influenza has been published in prestigious journals such as Lancet, PLOS Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine, and Nature. Together with staff from the School of Public Health he has established a lung and bronchial ex vivo culture system to investigate tropism and pathogenesis of emerging viral infections, as well as potential novel antiviral agents.

Dr. Isaac Bogoch is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Medicine, and is an Infectious Diseases consultant and General Internist at the Toronto General Hospital with a focus on tropical diseases, HIV, and general infectious diseases. He completed medical school and Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Toronto, and then specialized in Infectious Diseases at Harvard University.
He holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health, and has completed fellowships in both Tropical Infectious Diseases and HIV care. Dr. Bogoch divides his clinical and research time between Toronto and several countries in Africa and Asia.
